Art: Classic vs. Modern…Which is Better?

This week is Art Week on The Blog Tag.  The writing prompt for this post is Classic vs. Modern Art.  This one is a bit of a toughie.  I don’t know that I can choose.  I love art for art.

I don’t know that there is any a right or wrong or that there is one better than the other…except in music…there is definitely a better there.  I think one has to look at art pieces on an individual basis.  I am unable to compare because the creation is an expression of and by the creator.  Do I like Classic Art? Yes.  Do I like Modern Art? Yes.

Painting

If we were to be talking bout paintings…I enjoy them no matter what period they represent.  Certain artists just speak to me.  I love Monet, Manet and Van Gogh.  I really love Solly Smook.

Sculpture

I must admit I am partial to the more classic of the art form.  I really love Renaissance sculpture.  Something about the interest in the form of the human body.  My favourite has to be Michelangelo’s “Pieta”.

Performance Arts (dance and theatre)

Definitely something that has become more difficult over the years.  It has become so varied and technical.  So much so that I think it is definitely improved.  The things people are able to do with their bodies astounds me.  When I close my eyes I imagine I can do those tricks too.  Performers are going to places they have never been before.  Exploring emotions so deep.

Music

Music my love.  Old School is the best school.  Unless it’s Jazz and Rock.  When it comes to Rock and Jazz it’s all school any school all day. In my opinion older music had more substance (if that makes any sense).

You may agree or disagree with me. The important thing is to have an opinion either way.  I cannot decide which is better.  Old or new.  What’s your take?
